To celebrate Loy Krathong or the Festival of Lights, the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) has launched a web site introducing places nationwide where you can celebrate the event. The web site can be accessed at www.loikrathong.net/th/. It's available in both Thai and English languages.
According to the site, the event is part of the Thai culture where flower floats or krathong are released into rivers to drive away illness, bad fortune, as well as to express apologies to Khongkha or Ganga, the river goddess.
The site also highlights such as an electric float procession on the Chao Phraya, the River of Kings, which will begin from Taksin Bridge (near BTS terminus) and end at Krungthon Bridge.
