With two months to go, bookings for PIMEX 2005 were slightly ahead of the 2004 numbers. But what is interesting is the mix. "We've lost a few local exhibitors this year, probably because they've worked out how to use the show without actually exhibiting," said PIMEX director Andy Dowden.

PIMEX 2005, the third Phuket Boatshow, will be held from 8 to 11 December at the Boat Lagoon Marina, Phuket.

According to Dowden, an interesting development this year has been the increase in bookings for boats displayed in the water and on dry land, mostly from yacht sales agents and brokers who are determined to crack the Thai market. "The boat displays this year will feature a lot of new models just built or imported; they should be a real crowd-puller," he said.

Boat displays include a new model Janneau luxury powerboat from Lee Marine, the return of the hugely popular X2K from Derani Yachts and the novel 'Speed Needle' from Germany, represented by Asia Superyachts. A notable first-time entry into the show is Thailand's biggest boat builder, SEAT, with boats in the water, on the hardstand and a significant display inside the halls.

Leading the field in the property sector are Raimon Land, firm believers in the synergy between boating and property sales, and Immobilien Plus, a recent arrival on the Phuket property scene, using PIMEX 2005 to launch its new top-end villa development.

For developers who want to be a part of PIMEX in a smaller way, organizers Image Asia are again putting together a composite pavilion. But this year, the area will be open plan and decorated to fit in with the island lifestyle theme. "We plan a relaxed environment, where visitors can wander through the different displays, have a coffee and chat to exhibitors," said Grenville Fordham, Image Asia managing director. Entry level for property companies is set at 20,000 Baht.

Backing the property sector at PIMEX, Marriott Vacation Club (MVC) is offering free accommodation vouchers at the JW Marriot to any exhibitor who wants to invite clients to visit PIMEX. The offer will be promoted in all PIMEX advertising and at a November property show in Hong Kong.
